Item Description:
The PiKo-1 is one of the world's most sophisticated tools for managing asthma at home. Unlike traditional mechanical meters, which only measure peak flow, the electronic PiKo-1 also measures FEV1, considered by many asthma specialists to be a more reliable indicator of an impending asthma attack. Small and lightweight (1.5 oz.) with 96 memory recall. Measures PEF and FEV1. Accuracy for readings is ±5%. The unit also displays color zones ('traffic light' color format relative to the patient's reference PEF or FEV1). The Piko-1 has a low battery indicator and uses two #357 silver oxide button cell batteries. FEV1 measurement Increased accuracy in the measurement of conventional PEF Test storage of the last 96 measurements, plus the Q-Factor (Quality Factor notifies the patient to repeat the test in case of cough ar any suspect blow) and/or Cough Marker Test quality alerts to indicate an abnormal blow or cough as indicated by ATS Ease of use - pocket size with only one operating button Optional companion PiKo Trend Software (personal or professional) allows asthma specialists to track and trend patient data. Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Piko-1 Peak Flow Meter
I am very pleased with my Piko-1 meter. It scores my results accurately as I checked it at the respiratory unit at the Hospital.

Customer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Reliable but Invalid Measurement
The device appears to be highly reliable but the measurement is not calibrated properly and is invalid. I happen to know my PEF from two sources - another peak flow meter and a professional measurement provided by my allergist. They are similar and the difference between those values and what PIKO-1 provides is in the range of 50 liters/minute. This makes the devide entirely useless to me.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - good product
I bought this as a replacement (they are sturdy little meters, but don't step on them if you drop it)
This is very easily used and read and remembers the previous high reading which is handy if I forgot to record it. It is easily programmed and there was only a small difference in "read" this one being a little higher than the original
The only reason it did not get five stars was that the original one I bought came with an extra set of batteries, also I was a little disappointed that after having paid for expedited shipping, it didn't actually ship until several days after it should have arrived. The company was quite nice about refunding the extra shipping

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
